At the arrival we had some misunderstanding concerning the fee to be paid at arrival for entry. The people weren’t sure about the amount – some said that they think nothing should be charged, others were thinking of 500 Kina/Person (= around 200 Euros/Person). But after some time – as all other passengers went through the customs and immigration checkpoint and just before the next plane with new people arrived an agreement were found and we were charged 100 Kina/Person. We paid, went through and were official in PNG. So here we are.
At the airport Carsten, our country director was already waiting and welcoming us. He organized together with Reinhard L. (who is an former Austrian Development worker) our transport to the accommodation. During our stay in Port Moresby we had the chance to meet two doctors from the General Hospital and a couple of other people like Alex S. (Ex-H3-person) and his wife as well as one Kenyan and some Swahili speaking Indians who are running a business in Port Moresby. For Amina a miracle as it took her much longer to find a Kenyan in Austria. Kenyans are really all over the world, they have gone places! We were supposed to see even some other sights from Port Moresby but unfortunately we just saw one supermarket – that was our tour through Port Moresby.
Because of the time difference we were waking up in the middle of the PNG-nights at around 3 am and weren’t able to sleep. We covered our lack of sleep during the day, at least we tried it as the extremely intensive part of the “In-country-training” and process of “welcoming” were going on. Amina was very happy as after several cold months in Europe she didn’t feel cold any longer.
